With the initiative of the ARCL Regional Executive (REB), on the mornings of 20 and 21 October 2014, relief aid received from “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund's German affiliate in cooperation with ORA International was distributed to 650 Syrian refugee families at the Bourj Hammoud Municipality Stadium.
The relief distribution arrangements were made through Mr. Gilbert Momdjian, chair of “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund's German affiliate, who was present in person during the distribution process.
Talking to Aztag Daily, Mr. Momdjian stated that ORA International had tried previously to deliver a large amount of humanitarian aid directly to Aleppo; however, the aid had entirely fallen into the hands of armed groups at the gates of the city. Later, as recommended by Mr. Momdjian, the organization had found it more convenient to deliver the aid to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon through the Armenian Relief Cross in Lebanon.
ARCL REB member, Dr. Siroun Vartabedian, noted that the proposal for this relief distribution was made during the reign of the previous REB but it wasn’t implemented until today (October 2014). She also expressed special gratitude to the Bourj Hammoud Municipality for opening the gates of the Municipality Stadium for this noble cause.
The Armenian Parliamentary Bloc staff also played a role in the relief distribution.
The list of beneficiaries was prepared based on the list of names proposed by the assembly of the inter-humanitarian institutions of the Armenian community.
The ARCL has also been organizing seminars, lectures, courses and other activities for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
