ARCL’s International Women’s Day celebration (2016)

Each year the ARCL Educational Committee marks the International Women’s Day with an honorable celebration. This year also, on Monday March 7, 2016, an event was organized to celebrate women, especially Armenian women.

The event, which took place at the “Tenjoukian” Hall of the ABSMC, started with the ARS anthem and was followed by a moment of silence in memory of newly deceased associate sisters.

Hasmig Kevorkian spoke in the name of the committee. She stated that a woman is an active factor in society, and that her role isn’t to be a pleasant being but to realize her value as a great contributor to the community.

“The Armenian woman’s commitments and roles have always been to support her husband and to stand for her family. In Armenian mythology, we have had three goddesses: Anahid, Asdghig, and Naneh. We have also had queens and princesses whom have carried the concerns of Armenian on their shoulders with their chastity and dynamism.” Said Hasmig Kevorkian

During this year’s event, the attendees watched a special video in which many prominent figures in the Armenian community answered the following question: “How do you appraise the Armenian woman, and what do you wish for her to overcome future challenges?

The video featured RA Diaspora Minister Hranoush Hagopian, the Armenian ambassador to Lebanon Ashod Kotcharian, ARF Central Committee representative, MP Hagop Pakradounian, President of Haigazian University Dr. Paul Haidostian, Aztag Daily Editor in Chief Shahan Kandaharian, Director of Radio Voice of Van Avedis Guidanian, Mr. Nazareth Jerejian, Mr. Aharon Shekherdemian, Mr. Armen Urneshlian, artist Haroutyoun Torossian, and last but not least Lebanese Diocese Bishop Shahe Panossian.

The event also featured performances by Salpi Keushguerian (qanun), Nayiri Ghazarian (cello), Garo Svakjian (shvi) and Avo Akrabian (solo).

The attendees sang “Giligia” and left the hall with high-self-esteem and mementos from the event.
